Kevin Byerly Joins CorePower Magnetics as Lead Engineer


PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – September, 7, 2021 – CorePower Magnetics Inc., a manufacturer of magnetic components for power electronic applications, today announced that Kevin Byerly has been appointed as lead engineer, effective September 1, 2021. Kevin is also a founder of the company.


“Kevin’s deep expertise in the engineering and manufacturing of magnetic components has been instrumental in launching CorePower Magnetics,” said CorePower Magnetics CEO Dr. Sam Kernion. “As CorePower expands its commercialization efforts and builds its book, Kevin will play a critical role in bringing products to market.”

As lead engineer, Kevin will be responsible to standing up the manufacturing operations for CorePower Magnetics high performance power electronics components.


“Kevin pioneered the development of robust manufacturing processes for numerous CorePower Magnetics technologies and we’re thrilled to have him on board to take these technologies to the next level,“ said Dr. Paul Ohodnicki, Jr., CorePower Magnetics founder and CTO. “It’s exciting to see our company vision continuing to progress and Kevin’s full-time commitment to CorePower Magnetics will only accelerate our efforts.”

Byerly joins CorePower Magnetics from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a research associate focused on developing and demonstrating capabilities to fabricate magnetic cores for high frequency motor and inductor applications. Prior to that, Byerly spent four years as a research scientist building the National Energy Technology Laboratory’s magnetic materials lab in Pittsburgh, which aimed at fabricating and testing of a wide range of soft magnetic materials, including soft magnetic tape wound cores. Before joining NETL, Byerly held several technical engineering roles at Magnetics, Inc. and Spang Engineered Solutions (Divisions of Spang & Co.) in Pittsburgh, PA including research technician, electromagnetic assembly technical lead, and eventually process engineer. A lifelong Pittsburgher, Kevin is a graduate of Duquesne University.
